Design that speaks without saying a word

our environmental policy

The protection of the environment has been an important part of our lives for many years. Our efforts and hopes transcend into our business in many ways - maybe not having a gigantic impact but we hope may make our clients and colleagues consider the impact of their activities if they don't already. Belinda was asked to give evidence at a Parliamentary Select Committee hearing, giving her views and requests to the government on how she thinks Government could help encourage the public to think more about sustaining the Earths finite resources.

The studio
Ten years ago when we converted an old red brick outbuilding into our studio we made sure it was built to the highest standards with regards to making it an energy efficient building. The level of insulation exceeded the Building Regulations including walls and floors. The energy to power our lighting, heating and computers comes from 'green energy’ ie. wind, solar or wave. Whilst this is a renewable resource we still think before we 'switch on’ and are careful not to waste it, as it's still a precious resource. We bought our first low energy light bulb 18 years ago - at an extortionate cost - but it did last 16 years! 90% of the light bulbs we use are low energy. and for those of you who visit us - even our loo rolls and soaps are ‘green' and biodegradable!

Clients
Over the years we have been able to persuade our clients to use papers and cards for their literature from paper which high environmental standards - more than FSC paper - we look at where the paper is made, the paper manufacturers environmental policy, its'carbon footprint, recycling, energy and sustainability policy. We no longer have to persuade clients to change - they too recognise the importance of being ‘greener’. We also encourage clients to think carefully about print quantities. 10,000 A4 64 page leftover brochures is wasteful and costly.

Suppliers
We use suppliers who have a good environmental policy as much as we can and encourage others to do so. For example Eco Digital Print who have won numerous awards

Fuel
As much as we like to see our clients we try and conduct most of our meetings on the telephone or over the internet - to save unnecessary fuel consumption. We drive a fuel efficient car and always try and use it economically by carrying out several jobs in one journey.
